"Baited" web sites.

It seems to be happening more often. You do a search for a girl's name and a lot of very similar looking results appear, goobledegook text but with the girl's name name apparently hijacked. I suppose there's no way of screening out these false results.

I have noticed this, I see a lot of sites where the exact
words I am searching for are listed in amongst a load
of rubbish.
I think this info is saved in cookies, and used by some
web sites.
When you visit a web site they will often save a file on
your hard disk called a cookie to note when you visited,
what pages you went to etc.
If you type stuff in to their web site it may also save that
in a cookie and when you revisit the site it may say
'wecome back Fred' to make you feel wanted.
The problem is that many web sites now use these cookies
to track where you visit, and even target the advertising
you get displayed.
So for example, if you are looking for a digital camera, and
visit some digtal camera web sites, then if you visit say the
Amazon site, it may display adverts for Digital Cameras, or
maybe books about Digital Cameras.
My guess is that when you search for say 'porn' this info is
saved in a cookie. Next time you do a search then the search
engine knows you are interested in porn sites so will
add the text you searched on to a web site and 'pretend'
it came up in your search. Just a guess but it is probably
something like that.
You can delete all your cookies if you want (on IE select
Tools then Internet Options, then Delete Cookies) but you
may have problems when you go back to a site such as your
online bank as it may ask you to re-enter information.
You can ask to be notified when a cookie is written to your
hard disk (on IE select Tools, Internet Options, then the tab
marked Privacy, then the Advanced button) then ask to be
prompted.
You may get a bit fed up with it, as some sites write a cookie
each time you go to a new page, but at least you will know
who is writing cookies.
You can use a program like AdAware (free) to list all the 'bad'
cookies and delete them, but it probably does not know about
the porn ones.
You can see all your cookies by going to the Start menu and
in the Run field type Cookies (may not work on all versions
of Windows) and just deleting the ones you do not like the
look of.
WinPatrol (free) is also good for listing your cookies and
deleting some of them.
You cannot do any great harm by deleting all your cookies,
but it may cause you a little inconvenience.

Forgot to mention.
There is an option in WinPatrol called Nuts.
Suppose there is a web site that writes cookies that
you would rather not have, say with a cookie of the
name 'sextracker' (which is a valid cookie)
So you can type 'sextracker' in the Nuts option of
Winpatrol and it will delete the cookie, and if it tries
to write it again it will not allow it to be written.
As you build up a list of unwanted cookies in the Nuts
option you will stop getting these annoying cookies.

Thanks Guilbert. It all seems a bit of a chore but I'll try your suggestions.
Perhaps the easiest thing to do is delete all cookies.

Do a before & after test Mart
Its the only way to see wether its the case or not
I've come to the conclusion that most porn related searches just turn up adverts for paysites these days as many of the sites you would like to find have gone to other places on the net ie newsgroups & yahoo & msn communities
Pirated or Legitimate material on free websites that aren't just small adverts for paysites seem to be a rarity compared to 3 years ago
The inverted commas used to make all the bullshit disappear but no longer alas
cheers
