we have dealt in posts about presenters who we formites find irritating, but i find the continuity announcer with the NE accent as welcome as the sound of finger nails being dragged down a blackboard. he also narrates 'the salon'
am i alone? does anyone else find other announcers irritating?

That guy sounds like a professional Geordie (ie, putting extra emphasis on it so nobody can mistake where he's from).
I recall seeing a programme up here in Sweatyland a number of years ago where the writer William McIlvaney was being interviewed about the importance of the Scots tongue (Scottish English, mainly recognisable but incorporating various Scots words, sayings and inflections). Mr McIlvaney was fine, unaffected, and quite intelligent, but seemed almost as annoyed at the interviewer----a cretin called Billy Kay, a professional Scot whose emphasis on every word was so irritatingly unnecessary that it made me want to beat him to death with a shinty stick---as I was.
Oh, and add Huw Edwards, the Beeb's professional Welshman.

Im not sure who you mean because the guy who narrates The Salon is Big Brother 2 winner Brian Dowling, who has a fairly mild accent but doesnt really qualify as strong enough to be annoying. Are you sure you dont mean that Big Brother guy - marcus...something

I think ID is right, the annoying Geordie who's job it is to liven up mundane shite in Big Brother is who you might be referring too.
The winner of BB2 was that fireman Geordie. (erm, so Im told)

The geordie fireman was Johnny and he lost out in the final against kate lawlor....and that was BB3 with alex, jade etc... BB2 was def Brian the ex air steward. Hes been by far the most successful of all the BB contestants, and he carries it well....
Congrats on your distinction by the way

I bow to your superior knowledge of BB contestants ID, I sit back and await the backlash you will no doubt endure for your BB Trivia.
I DO admit to watching the first series though...........all of it

Well, I'm suspicious. I reckon some forumites are ashamed about their BB watching so are deliberately giving duff info.

Yes, just to clarify: the bloke with the north east accent who does the link pieces on Channel 4, he also sometimes narrates the salon, he first came to prominence with his half asleep commentaries of Big Brother. Brian Dowling the bed wetting nancy boy has probably done better than any other contestant because he is a raging homo, which should fit in pretty well with the rest of the media types that are happy to errr ... employ him.

as i don't watch any soaps, or reality tv - except when i change channel and there's the end of one of theses programs, most of tthe people on/in them is a mystery to me. i sometimes watch a talk show and have no idea who some of the 'celebrities' are.
[having just read my own post, it makes me sound a real snob - honest, i'm not really]
if i did i'd be more ashamed to watch 'i'm a celeb' etc than big brother; but it's a close thing. and WTF is the andre chap who's going to be in it?
