I've heard conflicting info on these.

Some pages on the net say that "region 0" DVDs can be played on any DVD player, yet when I go to sites that sell them I get the warning "Please ensure your DVD player can play region 0 DVDs" which suggests the opposite.

Can anyone put an end to my confusion?

For the record, my DVD player is part of my PC (the "D drive") and can play region 2 DVDs plus CDs.

It will be a very unusual DVD player that doesn't. What DVD player have you got?

I would take a guess that the "Please ensure your DVD player can play region 0 DVDs" message on the web site is like a generic internet site forumla type thing from a database in which they just add the number of the code 0,1,2,3 etc so when it comes to 0 it looks a bit strange saying "Please ensure your DVD player can play region 0 DVDs"

My player just says "LG" on the front panel. There's no other markings.

Given that regional codes are only one problem you might encounter when buying from overseas I'd do a search under your LG model number on google to find out exactly what your machines specifications are

If they are American Region 0 DVDs then your TV does need to be able to receive NTSC. NTSC and PAL signals still apply to DVDs regardless of Regions.

My LG player will certainly play Region 0 DVDs. Not only that but it outputs pseudo PAL from NTSC DVDs so whether the TV converts NTSC to pseudo PAL (and modern ones do) is irrelevant. And a second 'not only that', pseudo-PAL can be switched off, which has the effect of the DVD player outputting true PAL from NTSC DVDs. Have a look at your manual, which should give the model number on the front, as well as telling you how to change the output signal (if it is possible to do that).

The one thing it won't do is play DVD-Rs, though it will play DVD+Rs.

To find further info about your drive go to the start button then control panel.
Look for system and double click on that. Click on the hardware tab then go to the device manager section then click on device manager. This should bring a list of all devices, click on the dvd/cd-rom drives plus "+" box and it should reveal the drives. Double-click on a name (my other dvd rom is an LG and it has HL-DT-ST DVD Rom GDR8161B as an entry). Double click that and you should get a tabbed property page with lots of tabs "General/Properties/DVD Region/Volumes/Driver" - my Dvd region is Region 2 and the dvd rom plays region 0 discs.
