the track record of the oscars in failing to honour some of the industrys greatest talents, is pretty dire. among those who never received a 'best' award are: alfred hitchcock, cary grant, barbara stanwyck, robert mitchum, kirk douglas - the list goes on...
as bad are those occasions when an award goes to patently the wrong person. the classic example being when grace kelly won best actress for some forgotten tosh, in the year that judy garland was nominated for 'a star is born'.

James Mason was criminally overlooked for the same picture.
But what the f**k is going on with the best actor nominations? Depp for Pirates Of The Caribbean? It's a great comic performance, but I doubt even he expected a nod.

I imagine ROTK will do the business, and rightly so. But they'll be many smiling through gritted teeth, namely all those major studio execs. who turned down LOTR flat (meaning all of them) and have since watched their share of around $4bn slip through their fingers. Ho-ho. True (allegedly): one exec. thought four hobbits excessive, and suggested cutting to two.

Its all rigged...the golden globes anyway and the rest is subjective
but I'm betting theres a bit of back room bribery just like in politics taking place leading up to all these awards
Theres too much money at stake given the gullibility of the public
Name something best or Number 1 and watch the morons run from all directions to see it
To have only 5 nominees for best film, actor etc in a whole years worth of releases is pure folly but thats what you get when award shows are made to fit around TV Commercials
IMHO
cheers
