Techie question about DVDs

........have bought a few now, and most play fine.
BUT.....on playback some have a black, more or less solid, horizontal bar that appears and goes at random, just below the top of the picture (in bad cases it can go nearly halfway down), breaks up, reappears, and drives me totally batshit.
I assume it's a production flaw, and unique to the copy I have (i.e. if I obtained a replacement there would be no guarantee the bar would be absent- it might just manifest itself in a different fashion). Am I right in blaming the producers, or are they using a cheapo duplicating service?

Well, I KNOW it's the DVD (my eyes are fine now that I have the white stick)- I just wanna be sure of my ground when I go arse-kicking.

Sounds similar to the kind of issues you get using a poorer scart lead. Try an Super VHS one....(I think thats right - old advice given to me years ago when i had weird txt etc going over the screen)

Maggsy has been on at me to invest in a gold-pin SCART- is that the sort of thing you mean?
If it works, it'll be well worth the extra dosh- that barring is like really bad TV interference.
