bbc1 has just run a second series of 'afternoon plays', which like the first series was far superior to much of the peak time offerings.

for some reason they have not repeated them in an evening slot. which is plain stupidity, concidering their quality.

i liked the old wednesday plays,play for todays too.

Sadly, single play drama doesn't do it in the ratings---and that's all TV channel chiefs care about. Play For Today and the likes were a way for aspiring writers to get their foot in the door. Plonked on in the afternoon, the work is likely to be less cutting edge---and will also be seen by a fraction of the potential audience later in the day.

only seen 1 afternoon 1 michael french was in it seemed a bit draggy anyway.

Caught part of one directed by Sarah Lancashire---a pisspoor production about bingo players in Blackpool.

its rubbish,cept for the streets of san francisco at 14.35 on ch 5 but i tape that anyway and watch midnight.[fave eps so far,the 1 with michael parks as a rapist/larry hagman as a dj,,brilliant.
