Copying bank notes.

I've just read an article that alleges that scanners won't copy US$, GB? or Euros because there is some encoding on the notes recognized by scanner software. Can any forumite with access to the said currency (assuming you havn't spent all your lolly on porn) confirm this.

.......why would you want to do this? ANY attempt to do so will earn you a lengthy stretch at a Government hotel.
And besides, the copies wouldn't fool even a Tesco's checkout girl............

I have on the authority of a photo-copier engineer, that you can copy British Bank Notes, unfortunately the solid silver strip that is in the note, comes out as a dotted line.

Which is a bit of a giveaway and rewards you with a trip to the old chokey !!

I know a couple of years ago one of my friends scanned in a twenty pound note, printed it 5 times and put them in a different friends birthday card...its a fleeting joke but the immediate reaction is a classic...lol

Shouldn't that have read 'EX-friends'?

LOL actually they are now ex-friends but due to lack of contact rather than any major disagreement over falsified currency ;)

A few years ago, before holograms were the norm on notes, some 'lads' on camp scanned tenners, creased them, ironed them and they DID look VERY realistic.
Instead of risking certain demotion by spending them at the NAAFI bar, they took a trip to Leicesters notorious 'Red Light Area' in mid-January, (VERY cold) and got the local streetwalkers to give 'blowies' in their cars. The poor gals were SO cold, their fingers couldn't 'feel' the difference between the paper of these scanned and genuine notes.
Result, a few happy lads.
A bit out of order, but a funny story nevertheless

oh, BTW, I WASN'T 'one of them'
