I don know how anyone can find that kind of film appealling, I havent seen any of the three they just look so murky and dark and frankly boring - but hey what do I know

You have the final episode of a Trilogy spanning 3 years finally delivered
It didn't surprise me at all that they won all 11 nominations
It was really a judgemnt of the 3 films overall IMHO
but I bet the academy wouldn't admit it
The only surprisng thing was the lack of any of the actors from LOR being nominated
A Legendary Book brought to life...wins best picture....none of the actors/actresses deemed worthy of nomination
An oxymoron if ever there were one or is it?

Yes great result for this trilogy as I agree with Buttsie this is just reward for the 3 films and not just The Return of the King, also angers me that the likes of Sir Ian McKellan was never nominated as his performance was nothing short of breathtaking, in fact the acting in these films as a whole has been top notch with not one weak-link or unbelievable character in what is a very make believe story.
I would also have to say well done to Billy Crystal the host, who was very funny in his take-off of some of the main films, studios and actors, must have really put some work into those musical renditions of the nominated films as well, I have to say I did not know he was as talented as this, seemed to hark back to the old fashioned days of the showman at work.
