My college lecturer mentioned these last night. Who had one? It usually featured a swotty looking kid on the box and contents included Iron Filings. I recall being VERY disappointed at not being able to make stink bombs with the obvious lack of 'specialist' ingredients.
Haven't seen one in years, probably due to Health and Safety, although I got mine at 11, I never broke a test tube apart from when I threw one at my little brother

Always had alum in them, IIRC, great for gurning expressions..........
HSE wouldn't allow it now, I suppose- you could do someone a mischief with some of that stuff.

Wonderful things, remember the little meth sprits burner..managed to fire all sorts of concoctions onto the ceiling in our house!

HSE might have a problem with chem. sets but there is so much else you can do with stuff around the house...i think if you mix bleach with acetone (nail polish remover) you can create chloroform!! (test it on the cat)

Potassium Permanganate and a small amount of Glycerin
..... um ..... that was a fave of mine.

Did anyone have their own Van Der Graaf Generator ?
(don't even think about the band, Stevie )
me and a mate stole one from school , and had hours of fun , untill we had a bet on who could touch it with their bell-end , my mate did it for my pack of "Top Trump tanks " screamed his head off and claimed it hurt when he pissed for a week ! .... happy days !

Think it was Salter, thought the box was pale blue lol...our local model shop used to stock all the stuff for when you ran out of individual tubes.

Once made silver di-carbide at home...thats good for a bang!

I had one!
I realised I wasn't Baron Frakenstein when the shit I made didn't taste as good as it should have.

I wanted to be the suicidal kid who drank NitroGylcerine and then threw himself against the wall to try and set it off.

The box did indeed have a swotty looking, 4 eyed twat with a vile grin.

I'm beginning to think there is a very strong correlation between people who had chemistry sets and those who belong to the OT forum.....lol
Yes, I had one too.
