It was Bill Nighy according to the paper today.
He was the smarmy cunt in Auf Weidershen, Pet who ripped the lads off over the bridge sale before they sold it to an Indian

His name was constantly being mentioned with regard to the role. I was hoping for Alan Rickman, but didn't think they'd get as politically-committed an actor as Eccleston. A Salford Doctor sounds perfect---and I don't think he would have committed to it unless the scripts/storylines were good.

Was Harold Shipman a doctor in Salford? I know he practised in Hyde, is THAT by Salford?
