I read yesterday that Kylie Minogue auditioned for the role of Galadriel in LOTR. Would she have been better than Cate Blanchett?
What other stories are there about unsuccessful auditions?

Not sure if this is true, but Johnny Vegas recently claimed to have auditioned for the role of Sam Gamgee in LOTR. A disaster, apparently - much to the (non)amusement of its director.

Vegas did audition, and it would have been an unmitigated disaster. Kylie as Galadriel? Bearing in mind, Galadriel is Arwen's granny and Elrond's mother-in-law, I don't think she'd have had the ability to carry it off. And when you consider that Tolkien described her as tall, sorry Kylie. Just stick to being the absinthe fairy.

Kylie Minogue play a serious part in a big production-well she was in Neighbours-next joke

Serious roles go to Career Actresses not popular pop queens

Doesn't surprise me that the money men thought of trying it on to reap
a few extra million through merchandising.I can see the Kylie dolls as I write

cheers

Kylie was in Streetfighter with Raul Julia and JeanClaude Van Damme
and The Delinquents

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001541/

didn't know she'd done this much.

How different would the Indiana Jones films have been if it wasn't for Tom Selleck being unable to get out of his Magnum p.i. contract?
