On line piracy

Post by Cerberus »

After all the recent headlines about on line music & dvd piracy by people using p2p file sharing etc. I just wondered who it is that produces all the blank recording media?
Surprise surprise, it's none other than the giant media corporations vigorously complaining about the very actions that they are enabling!
So, what you lose on the swings you gain on the roundabout.
What next I wonder, to salve their injured wallets......a licence to buy blank media?........now there's an idea!

Well they do try and protect their warez...I mean goods with protection.
HA. That stuff is so lame it takes me all of 10 seco...it's disgusting that these pirates take 10 seconds to remove protection.

Devil's Advocate. Owning a knife doesn't mean you have to kill.
It's an analogy before anyone says "That's a completely different concept" and goes all lefty or righty on me.

Blank VHS = In case you miss your favourite show
Blank Cd's = Back up some files
Blank DVD = Back up bigger files
Blank Betamax = HaHa Get A Life
Blankety Blank Cheque book & Pen = On sale at eBay
Blank Firing = You're a Jaffa and need to go to the clinic

I'm bored.

Hi All,

I watch this subject very very closely.

You have this absolute WANKSTAIN of a spokesman Jack Valenti saying that Piracy is a serious threat to the Movie, Software and Music Industry, yet these organisations are actually encouraging piracy?.

(A) Why wait for such a long period of time in releasing movies to DVD/Tape?

(B) How can they justify charging anything from ?8 upto ?25 for most releases, when it costs them a few pence to make and distribute?.

(C) As previously mentioned most film studios are owned by the very same people who sell the Blank Media.

They are all Hypocrites long live the pirates.

Briefly: the lenghy release dates for some DVDs is sometimes due to the release pattern of the film's theatrical run. A film such as ROTK can get a swift DVD release as its very wide global run has been seen through in a relatively short time. In fact, many of the conditions regarding DVD are there to not harm the theatrical release and cinema-going in general. That said, it is still possible to acquire american DVDs of films that haven't yet been released here. The solution, one presumes, is a synchronized worlwide release pattern in which most countries get the film at the exact same time. This, of course, could then be applied to the DVD release.

We have a situation now where the DVD release can sometimes make much more money than the theatrical run, yet the DVD release would mean nothing without that as that is how the film usually enters public awareness. Some predict that the theatrical run of a film will, in future, be seen as a mere precursor to the DVD release, and that DVD (or whatever future format) could even eventually lead to the demise of theatrical releases. All films straight to DVD with only SKY/TV as their communal audience? I certainly hope not.
