Need Some Tech Help Please...

My IE is acting up real shitty today.
All of a sudden, my default homepage has changed.
I've re-set it via TOOLS -> INTERNET OPTIONS etc but everytime I reboot my machine, it goes back to the page that I don't want as a homepage!
At the same time, my cookies seem to be cancelled out every session.
I have to enter my username and password each time I visit a familiar site.

I think some bastard dialler has tried to install itself on my system but seeing as I'm on broadband, it's going in some mega loop trying to find a connection.

Anybody out there willing to help in exchange for a set of Mountain Bike stabilisers?

Trojans? Cookies? Default Homepages?

Are you running Ad-aware? It might be able to isolate the stinky, sneaky, bastard that's got on to your system.

I don't think it's gator cos I've had a look.
All of a sudden a window keeps popping up in IE that says C:Windows/dl.html WTF is that all about.
If I try and open the window, shit happens so I just have to manually close it!

Is ad-aware that good then?
Good on Trojans?

I don't know how good it is, Holden, but it does show up the cookies placed on your machine and allows you to clean them off. A trip to Lizard's locker in the Miscellany section might provide more technical (and certainly more expert) advice than I can offer.

Yeah, looks like there's something in the Locker that might help. But not having used it myself, I can't vouch for how good or efficient it is. It's a shame the forum monitor has gone AWOL.

Just used Spybot from Liz's locker and I found a Gator!

OK I managed to get a program called CoolWebSearch Shredder and it's sorted out my homepage problem.
Now I'm just having cookie problems.
I have to keep entering my username and password as it's not being remembered.
Anyone got any help for that?

Have you not got a firewall installed. If you've been surfing bareback you had better book an appointment at the VD (virus detection) clinic.
Seriously though, if you have a look at this newsgroup

You'll see how common it is to get infected by malware.
