Has the doco series about the ANZACs started on Oz tv yet? Saw the 1st episode last night. Excellent even if Russell Crowe is doing the narration.

Not to my knowledge but then i only watch one channel
which just happens to be the documentary King of Australian TV-Government funded naturally

The only mention of Anzacs was a program titled Korean Anzacs running on 25/04/04

I suppose its all been shown before

Maybe it was launched in New Zealand given that RC was the narrator

cheers

As far as I know its a brand new series using extensively researched colour (not colourized) film. 1930's through to Vietnam.
Tried to find a link on TVone's website but there's nothing.
Worth looking out for.
I expect other forumites are asking: wtf are Anzacs?.....lol

Tesco (UK) stock Anzacs biscuits and they do go well with tea ......
I also remember a series with Paul Hogan which was great !

O/T and I found a copy of "Barry Mckenzie holds his own" at a table sale ....
and I think its total class ...........

" He must have two dicks as he could'nt get that silly playing with just one "

I guess Oz is happy to forget this old school humor ?, in the same way people in the UK don't like those who agree with Alf Garnet's view of life , but as I don't think its going to convert me into a POHM hating ,fosters drinking , poofter basher , ill say it still worth the watch .

Question : how many Ratbags on this forum ?

Colouring Old black & white footage seems to be the new way....recently watched World War 1 in colour

Does seem to make everything far more graphic & real where as black & white is kind of unreal to me anyway

Surprisingly the meaning of the Anzac tradition is more well known these days than say 20 years ago although I'm sure some would look at a TV title like 'Korean Anzacs' and I'm sure many would think the ANZACS were Koreans

I've always thought of ANZACS of those that were slaughtered like sheep at Gallipoli but in reality they were just the tip of the iceberg but history only reports the great losers or winners

I never actually saw any of Barry Mackenzie(probably because I thought Barry Crocker was a thorough wanker)...warning...never buy any of his records

I was more of your
Alvin Purple(Graeme Blundell) fan...common guy that kept getting abused by women

Sir Les Patterson(Barry Humphries) was good for a laugh...the establishment hated him

Ratbags...used to be a TV show of the same name in the early eighties hosted by an eccentric melbourne Comedian Rod Quantrock...remember they were the first to cook a mars bar on TV

This site sums up what it is to be a ratbags

Also means Holden Macgroyn but in a revered sense

Gallipoli - the ANZACS must have groaned when Churchill became PM in WWII.

To be sure

I always relate at how the British High Command used the Anzacs
to how the Blacks were used in the American Civil War-Expendable Cannon Fodder

Watched a recent doco on him....think he was the right man for the job at the time but anybody who thinks they're 100 percent right all the time is dangerous should never wield supreme power

The war pretty much saved him just as 9/11 will probably save GB and the Falklands saved Thatcher

Strange how people loose all perspective during or leading up to a War

Sounds like the same series

Must have been back about a month ago that I saw the it being advertised on TV and no where else

Given that the government channel only advertises in between programs
and no where else it was just by luck I saw 2 episodes

I don't peruse TV Guides like most

The only thing that really peaked my interest was that it was in colour

cheers
