Interesting interview with Lucas Radebe in either Saturday's Guardian or the Sunday Times yesterday... he says he feels the rot started when Rio Ferdinand was signed.

Until then the club had a rigid wage structure but Rio got ?55,000/week. Others asked for pay rises and got them, and in the end the ?90m spent on players (some of it recouped) was nothing compared to the extra millions in wages each year.
