New series of Still Game appears on TVs throughout Sweatyland on Friday night, so the chances are the rest of the UK should get it sometime in 2005.

On those rare occasions when I'm unable to avoid it, I have far more trouble with the Sarf Lunnun/Estuary-strangulated vowels of Eastenders than I ever did the Plimsolled One.

What is it with the southern types needing to put an R at the end of any word that ends with W?

It's the vowel-mutation (mutation, as in producing teratoid abortions that resemble nothing on Earth) before they ever get to consonants that floors me.
And every syllable ends up three times its intended length. I mean, they never ever stop talking anyway, even to draw breath, so it's constant Tower of Babel (spelt 'Babble', down here, I think).
Dante had it right when he remarked that Hell is full of endless noise.........
