Why do we always back the USA?

I have often wondered why British Prime Ministers of both parties always seem to support decisions of American Presidents. It certainly isn't a two way street. Suez proved that. I sometimes think some secret deal was done in World War II.

There was a posting some time ago containing a link that suggested a very sinister explanation of Bliar's allegiance to the US. The CIA has the dirt on a couple of pedos in Labour's ranks.

Yes, but this support has been consistant since the last war. It cannot be explained by information the CIA may or may not have on certain individuals now active in politics.

I can explain that in quite simple terms David (that simple that I feel I shouldn?t have to.) The simple fact is that being the best pal of the biggest kid on the block bestows a multitude of advantages upon one.

But other countries, notably France, do not seem to need to always back the USA. We should of course support them when they are right, but if it is unconditional support they want, we need to see some coming the other way.

Its all about Economics

Nothing to do with right or wrong

As for the French...besides their love of pissing people off(The nations of the Pacific love em-NOT)....as Magoo pointed out eons ago the reasons for the French opposition to the invasion of Iraq was purely down to protecting their Economic interests...hypocrytical bastards

You are right that the French will always do what is in the French national interest. This brings us back to the original question.

Yes but who determines what the best national Interests are?

I've seen this 2 major party farce that Britian & Australia
have basically make good social policy redundant and put all their eggs in one basket......economic growth

IMO I think we both blindly follow America to get access to their Market
AT WHATEVER COST

Foolhardy to say the least

There is one honourable exception not mentioned so far. Vietnam. Although both Australia and NZ did send troops.

Like being the second most loathed nation on the planet*?
Thankyou for explaining.

*That is NOT a cue for some smart crack like 'life's not a popularity contest': as any sociologist or anthropolgist will tell you, it usually is.
Being killed by an angry mob is the ultimate 'no' vote in that contest.
And pushing your analogy further, having a protective big brother usually produces a kid who never learns to stand on his own two feet.
