.......they make the claims system as daunting as possible, then weasel out of compensating people for saving the government hundreds of thousands of pounds by caring for their own children and giving up their own lives, and then hide behind lawyers when the media rightly attempt to expose their skulduggery.
"O, Brave New World, that has such people in it............"

Most of the present house of commons act as though they have VCJD., but then they all have private health care as well as access to 'instant' legal advice.
Did you want a brew?

I remember a lecture at uni where a lecturer was going nuts about the crap we were feeding to our livestock (ie. dead cows being used as animal feed). He said it would end in ruin, we all went yeah yeah and went back to sleep. Then his foresight came to be reality.
Hard to know who to blame and if compensation is due who to claim from. Is it the fault of the government for letting it happen, the fault of the medical profession for not ensuring prions were destroyed on surgical equipment , the fault of the food industry for doing it or our own fault for wanting such cheap prices that people were pushed into doing it?

All of the above are to blame
All payouts come from insurance companies so it really doesn't mater who gets labelled as the weak link

Its the same all round the World
There are cases where the departments are just plain stupid
A recent case made this crystal clear....if you adopt your deceased relatives kids you get no financial support from the department
If you become their Guardian you do
Pure madness
The family invovled have 10 kids all up and without government assistance will have to sell the family home
The alternative was to make the deceased brothers kids wards of the state and then APPLY to be their Guardian with no guarantees that they would be returned
Pure red tape
Same goes for becoming a full time carer for a relative-you get nothing
If your not related you do
I could go on but then I'd send myself to sleep
cheers

I would totally agree. expect maybe for the medical one, it would be hard for them to know that normal sterilisation techniques wouldn't work against prions before they were identified as the CJD cause. I reckon a number of current and future cases will be attributed to this infection route

All, some or none, but my point was rather that the Govt has an NHS obligation to provide care for the victims, and so, if that care is provided by relatives in lieu of professional (and much more expensive to the State) healthcare- workers, they should be recompensed fairly, adequately and above all quickly, and not buggered around by arrogant (un-)civil servants, who are in fact OUR employees, not the reverse.
