Just watching GMTV and pondering if Piers Morgan should be tried for treason? If those pictures are fake he should be posted to Iraq to see how much fun it is trying to patrol in Basra or Fallujah...........

Think treason's a bit harsh. He should've been sacked for his part in the dodgy share tipping scam that the Mirror ran a couple of years back.
Fair play to Piers though for being the only tabloid to run with an anti-war stance, losing readers because of it.
And you admit to watching GMTV? Have you no shame!

Seem to be missing the point here.
Although the photos are fake, but it looks as if they do represent events that have been happening in Iraq. By publishing these photos it has brought this to the British public's attention.
Talking about prosecuting newspaper editors for upsetting the government is the slippery slope to living in a country like Nazi Germany, or Iraq!
What the **** are we doing supporting Bush?s policies anyway?
As the saying goes, if you lie down with dogs, you will get fleas.

the point with Morgan is that he never claimed that the pictures were "staged" to show real events until questions were asked. at first the pictures were claimed to be real. the man is a total wanker with no shame or morals

I am not at all sure that a trial for treason is a runner. However we do need to examine the way the press, particularly the tabloid press, conduct themselves. It is a fine balance between a vigilant press who bring genuine wrongdoing into the public arena, and the one we have now, which seems to specialise in making some peoples' lives a misery, for no particularly good reason. The British tabloid press seem particularly prone to this, and it is therfore necessary to ask if they are serving an unpleasant trait in the charecter of most of their readers.

the "point", surely, is that IF the photo's are proven to be fake, morgan and his paper are guilty of gross negligence at best and gross deception at worst. and what could be more nazi-like than the flagrant dissemination of propaganda as fact...
it is at times like this, when many of us feel that we can't entirely trust what our own government is telling us, that we need the forensic scrutiny of a free press, so that we can base our interpretation of events upon just that: events - not invention.
instead, we have the editor of a major newspaper using the sort of weasel argument more commonly associated with politicians: i.e. the government hasn't proved conclusively that the pictures are fake, therefore they must be genuine! HE is the one who claims to have spent weeks examining and verifying their provenance. it is therefore up to HIM to prove beyond dispute that these images are what he claims them to be. or maybe there really is a ww2 bomber on the moon...
i am against this war and have been since it first became a glint in the neo-con eye (emphasis on the 'con' bit) but that does not oblige me to excuse every smug assertion or misguided action perpetrated by those who share my anger at the current sorry state of affairs.

Think he'll move away from the paper business, he's had a good run considering the fuck-ups he's made.
Expect to see more of his smarmy face on tv shows.

Photos may be fake and he deserves to resign for that simple matter however can everyone say hand on heart that absolutely no abuse of prisoners or Iraqi people has been carried out by British Soldiers, not talking about the 1000's of soldiers bravely over there just the odd 1/2 soldiers who who overstepped the mark
