Long overdue IMO
Apart from the 2001 season when they one all the mickey mouse trophies playing a defensive/counter attacking game they really haven't closed the gap between themselves and the Big 2
cheers

Yes DB only a matter of time. Hw was increasingly unlikely to bring Premiership or Champion's Laegue success to the club.
However it is presented to the public he was sacked (by the club that never sacks anyone - Evans, Souness) and had to play along with that awful press conference if he wanted to keep his contractual pay-off. At least he maintained a certain dignity about the whole thing.
But one must also think that it's no coincidence that Houllier goes when the bees hover around the Anfield honeypot. Houllier's strongest supporter has always been David Moores and just when the latter's position is under scrutiny the manager goes. Perhaps the Thai PM has made his views clear and that if Liverpool want that ?65m then Houllier is the first sacrificial lamb.
Who will follow ? Whoever it is will not be able to turn it around very easily or quickly. Liverpool fans need to lower their expectation in light of the way football is now and not what it was like 20-25 years ago. A new manager is no guarantee of future success. In his press conference of a few days ago, Houllier quite rightly pointed out that it is much harder now to compete at the very highest levels.

LFC getting into bed with that evil Thai scrote is a very bad move.
They will come to regret it.

I reckon so. If, as reported the main reason for turning down the Steve Morgan approach was the bitter enmity between Moores and Morgan, then Moores is a bloody fool and they deserve all the problems they will surely get from this lamentable deal.
It makes Roman's frenzied cash splashing seem almost innocent.

i understand that Owen and Gerrard had indicated that they would consider leaving if Houllier stayed, clearly player power won through.

At the moment Valencia coach Rafael Benitez is favourite to succeed Houllier. We'll see.
Anyway, good to see their fans joking as ever: asking for Bryan Robson and Glen Roeder to finish off what he started.
