I have downloaded about 100 short movie clips off a few websites (all adultbouncer sites) and they are all WMV files - the majority of them play fine but about 20% of them wont play in WMP 9 as:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The file is either corrupt or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play."

Other than the files being corrupt can anyone think of anything else? I have tried to play them in a few other players to no avail and WMP is up to date according to the MS website - I also downloaded and installed a CODEC pack but it still wont work! I even tried to rename the extensions in case the site had got them wrong but it doesnt work either - an email to the webmaster has gone unanswered for over a week now so am open to any (sane!!!) suggestions!

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds an awful lot to be corruption
which either leaves the codecs or the player

If updating all the relevant codecs doesn't work try running the mr fix it program at free trial for 30 days
Its best feature is that it Diagnoses wether you have any problems or conflicts in the registry

It fixed my WMP back awhile when I'd pulled all my hair out trying to figure out why it kept rejecting clips

The files may be corrupted, also try right clicking, the properties to look at the real format, they may have been posted as wmv files, but may also be q.time, or real player, failing that, clear all history, and files out of wmp, and then re-install it, but first try playing the files in q.time, or real player, if re installing wmp, dont forget-erase ALL history in your current version, as some files contain reg info, and links, so they will only play whilst online...

After a lot of messing around and trying different things I finally found the problem ? I use Downloader Accelerator Plus (DAP) for all my downloads (especially large files) as it supports resumes in the event of being disconnected. It appears that because of the way DAP downloads file in multiple streams and joins them together that on WMV files (but not MPEG or AVI) it causes the output file to be corrupted in some way so it cant be played.

I have just downloaded a file without using DAP and it works fine but with DAP it comes up with the error message given above! Like I said earlier it only seems to affect WMV files but not MPEG or AVI.
