Folks,
Have you read to-day's SUNDAY EXPRESS,the Financial Section, entiled "Sun Setting on BUNNY EMPIRE?" Why Hugh Hefner's legendary Playboy business is in danger of following Guccione's Penthouse into the abyss.
It makes very interesting reading...how many magazines will be around within the next few year's-even those produced in G.B.
How the mighty fall!
A sad lament on to-day's times..

That's cos bargain basement gonzo is taking over. Fewer people are buying into the high gloss porno than you think. Or to rephrase that, more and more people are making their own porno...Just the way they like it. Well, that's one theory amongst many others anyway. The other big reason is the internet. Probably the biggest excuse for the demise of Messrs Hefner and Gucciones empire. Let's face it, as much as I respect what they have done and become- every dog has their day. Harsh words indeed but never a truer word said. Not that I'm the bastion of knowledge on this subject of course, just an opinion.

Bob Guccione puts part of the blame on the internet and the amount of soft-porn websites.

I'm afraid it's the same all over. Easy access to porn, bland (at best) anorexic models, downmarket unappealing, production line products are all killing the industry. Some of my Brit-porn colleagues who 2 years ago were driving Mercs are now reduced to ?800 quid jalopies - I exaggerate not.
It is slightly irritating to hear those who's knowledge of the industry only extends to the couple of videos they bought from a DS Private shop gushing to each other and the ?stars? of this forum "Hey, ***** you were great in ***** *****" and, "I loved your last movie" and "Have you seen *****? It's excellent!" - If only people in the real world (not the forum) on civi street thought the same.
But it's not "excellent' it's shit. The products, by and large, are shit. The calibre of models has deteriorated dramatically since I started ten years ago - Hey, I can't think of more than 2-3 Brit porn models and celebs that I could even be arsed to shag if they were giving it away! - Yep, they're that appealing. And it seems the wider porn buying public feels the same way - if sales are anything to go by. 'Gonzo' has a lot to answer for.
But, I guess we'll soldier on and maybe try and tempt those jaded porno palettes with something more interesting and agreeable - though I'm not quite sure where we'll find the models yet.
The Insider - in a melancholy mood.

Which were the three shaggable ones, for monotonous, well-worn argument's sake?

Gonzo and the internet are the prime reasons but not the only ones.
Playboy & Penthouse are dinosaurs,I say this with some reluctance because they are quality mags. Why there still pumping at softcore airbrushed publications with heaps of interesting articles their competitors like Paul Raymond Publications have blown them out of the water with nothing but magazines with pictures. The old adage "Sex Sells"is very true.
The other little point overlooked would be that Playboy & Penthouse were the risque publications of their time for the thinking man but todays market for this produce no longer exists.
To sum up why would you buy a paper product when you can view all and more on the internet. The only thing i say in defence of magazines is the quality of their pictures is better than the internet.
Good luck to Violet & Phil McC with Penthouse UK.
Maybe we need an inducement to subscribe!!!
cheers

Maybe we should be grateful to these guys for starting the genre. Also Larry Flynt for pushing the door open a bit further...
However as "The Insider" says the quality of UK produced stuff is spiralling down the drain. Many years ago you would never have seen a remotely rough looking model in Electric Blue, now half of TAC and TVXs progs are full of second and third rate models who would fail to get into any Private casting never mind film. There are very few truly stunning models now working. When I go to the Motor Show I look as Aston's, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, not Ford or Vauxhall. It's the same with porn, I want to see the very best, not some small town trollope...

But alas, the small time trollope is most wanted. One can tell by the video series produced. We are living in an age where punters want porn to look as real as possible. This is not a general sweeping statement. All these real wives, viewers wives stuff outsell even the signature series produced by our current crop of producers. Why? Because it's real as opposed to contrived scenarios. We are living in a throw away culture and high turnaround in product. Not many things hold their value and porn...as always, has been a reflection of the sign of the times.
And another important thing. The average bloke is more likely to whack one off the wrist to a readers wife mag or video than one of a classy air brushed picture of a stunningly unattainable girl
in a magazine like PlayBoy or Penthouse. Mr Flynt has got it right, Private have got it right: Stunning girls in filthy action, crisp clear pictures and high end product. Maybe Penthouse and Playboy should come off their uppercrust horses and produce a b/g hard line in videos and mags and compete with Private and Hustler on the high end side of things. They certainly have the financial clout and distribution to do it. I guess it will never happen. Who really cares anyway?
As for THE INSIDER and MR HANGTIME, though they have made valid but subjective opinions, you've still got Hustler, Playboy and Harmony to look forward to. Despair not chaps.
The only way to get more classy brit-birds in the hardcore mix is to pay em loadsa money and shoot them with a high end production company. So all you jaded men of the world missing real glamour: Stop moaning about it and do something about it!
Mind you, you probaby won't earn much, but do it for the kudos
