He was a puritan, which kind of colours my views of him. But without him and his fellow killjoys there'd have been no gradual movement towards parliamentary democracy, but instead a French Revolution with the streets of London running with blood.
All in all, five out of ten for Olly, but he should have had some more fun.

He was an amazing man , and managed to ride the Tiger of a revolution without getting eaten by the ultras who would be executed by the Ancien Regime but come out of the closet once there is some momentum. I disagree with a lot of what he believed in but clearly he was right about Kings not rulng through a divine right , I mean imagine the Windsors with that much clout , yuch! The struggle between Cromwell and the astonishing Charles I , you couldn't make it up . Today wearing my compulsory crash helmet on my catalysed bike creeping past the speed cameras hoping for one last blast , well only up to the 60MPH National speed limit officer , before Prescott concretes over the South of England to provide homes for docile Labour voters , I know who won in the long term.
Can I have a 1.1 please

......he could have meant his son, Richard, or even the earlier Thomas.
But I think he was referring to Ebenezer Cromwell, who once ate 53 jars of lemon curd in one afternoon, while simultaneously translating the Talmud into Hindustani Braille, and only got the pages a little bit sticky.
What a man.

You take that back. His report card clearly states he was abusing himself.
