Just had to do a reinstall and put WMP back on - for some reason the way it behaves with URLS has changed and I don't know how to get it back to the way it was!

I used to be able to click on a mpg/mp3 link and the program would launch immediately and stream. I've got a 1.5mbps connection so this would always seem to be ok.

Now for some reason the bloody thing loads the entire file and then launches it when it's complete - which is ever so slightly annoying!

Have tried reinstalling WMP to no avail but I figured there must be a setting somewhere that controls this.

Anyone know what it is please?

It always buffers a bit first , you see this on DSL, if you have a dedicted T1(= 1-5 mbs) line then u tr right , this should be transparent for most practical file sizes .

if you had to re-install it , are you sure you have updated it. Remember Windows XP automatically updates as you go. You may have re-installed a previous version. Might be worth checking for updates using the Help menu

I get pissed off with my WMP too.
Sometimes it says "loading" and never starts playing. I close it down and then it won't reopen until I do a complete close then reboot.
Bloody thing.
And Yes I have re-installed it, numerous times.

I'm no expert but the setting might be found under tools/options/performance

Theres a choice between default buffer and setting your own time limits

Personally I think you might get more info on a computer forum

I've got to say I get no problems. Are you sure your version is the new patch? If you go to Windows Update (if you are using XP) and scan it will tell you of any updates you need, should you need any. Including Windows Media Player.
