Sex scenes in mainstream movies are usually a waste of time. They take you out of the movie.

Instead of getting involved in the plot and caring about the characters you're just looking at the tits, or getting pissed off that the actress isn't showing her tits.

Unless the film is about the characters sex lives it's a distraction, and it's mostly there so they can put a clip in the trailer and photo on the DVD cover.

Roger Corman once said that you can get as much reaction from an audience by having a girl take her top off as you can from blowing up a car, and the former is a lot cheaper.

I agree sex scenes have to be apart of the story otherwise they are irrelevant but at least in a mainstream sex scene your not going to see the girl looking beyond the camera when she's distracted by someone.

Too often in hardcore flicks you see the girl supposebly in the throws of ecstacy suddenly look to somewhere beyond the camera because she's been distracted-game over

The ultimate worst is instructions being given midstream
Watched a solo girl scene recently where directions were being given and you clearly see her first mouth what then nod to say I understand-farcical

Anybody that has any Credibilty at all would have edited it out at the very least

That's crap editing, part of the many crap things that can happen in porn coz a lot of the people making it haven't bothered to learn their craft or just don't give a shit.

Another movie story. Rob Cohen (director of 'XXX') said he tried to be arty when he made a film called 'The Skulls'.

He had an actress who wouldn't do nudity so he shot her sex scene with arty lighting and editing and made it look as good as possible - with no nudity.

In the test screening he got one card back that said; "If you're not going to show me her tits, don't waste my time."

That's what sex scenes do in a mainstream movie; they distract or they piss people off.

When you see someone highly successful(no I'm not going to mention the name) and with the tolls and the expertise to produce a polished product not edit out obvious gliches its little wonder that those on the pecking order below follow suit

Its one thing to go from using the ultra unattainable pornstars to the fresh faced girl next door types but its another to let production values slip so more profit can be had at the expense of the punter


I suppose a good comparison would be to film a high speed car chase where nothing is damaged...now that would piss off the petrol heads in the audience
