Am I imagining that I once owned a 7 inch single of a David Essex song called City Lights ? I have looked on some music sites and couldn't find reference to it, so I'm asking you BGAFD forumites to tell me if it wasn't Mr Essex singing it, or the title was different or if I am a stupid cunt who needs his head jambed in an electric head squashing machine for asking such a question.
I'd love to hear it again....." Walk on in the night / walk on City Lights "...( something about " What I've got I'm gunna keep " )
Thanks anyway

Put the head squashing machine away. city lights was a single release for the Essex guy in 1976. I expect you will find some info on it at :

OK, thanks for that link. They only had it available as an old 7 inch single - not on CD. For some reason I've now had some success in finding it on other sites.
It was the last song on one of his low selling albums called " Out on the Street " in 1976. It was a minor hit as a single and the flip side was " St Aime ". I'm sure I can find it buried on a compilation somewhere. Thanks for the help.

It is in the Guinness World Records British hit singles 15th edition as having reached the heady heights of 24th position on March 24 1976 and stayed in the charts for four weeks.

Hey ! You're a genius ! But since you're a genius you'd already know that. The CD on the link you gave looks exactly what I'm looking for.
Thanks again.
