It's a shame it's such a useless, amateurish film. Admittedly, it does have some good points, but it's poorly shot (yes, yes, I know it's meant to have that whole cinema verite hand-held thing going), poorly written and has about as much plot plausibility as your average episode of The Teletubbies. Without the "sensational" hard-core sex scenes (which are pretty short and crap) and (very average) violent f/x there' s very little to it.

And the UK version (which Sky are likely to show) is cut too. See http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=1842 for the full comparison.

Having said that, YMMV and all that ...

Yours in a Barry Norman stylee,

Mikey

I liked the film as well. I saw it in the cinema when it was released in London and last night on Sky was the second time.
Admittedly the first time (if I'm honest) I was mainly just curious about the sex scenes (which as it turned out were more numerous and more explicit than I was expecting, even after all the hype), but left the cinema thinking it was a better film than I was expecting.
That was a couple of years ago. Last night I thought it still held up well especially compared to a lot of the crap that you find on Sky movie channels.
I like the way a lot of French film directors make films that they want the public to see, rather than the standard Hollywood crap of directors making films they think will sell.
I only had a couple of gripes about last nights view and none of them were the films fault.
One was the missing 12 seconds from the cinema version (you can't do much about the law of the land !).
Secondly there was a storm here in Essex last night with thunder & lightning which blocked the satelite signal for about 10minutes (don't you just hate when that happens).
And thirdly I mistakenly only put a 60 minute video casette into my VCR (Doh !!!), so I haven't got the start or the end of the film on tape.
God knows when it will be on again

Saw this last night and I was fairly shocked (and excited haha) by the content - I don't think this is the "cut" uk version ? It was the full monty!

Anyway on the subject of decent foreign films here are 3 such films I recommend highly

1. Azumi (New Japan samurai flick)

2. City of God (Calls itself the Brazilian Goodfellas, its actually nothing like Goodfellas, but still a really good film)

3 Er, Baise Moi !

Yuck. Vile, dire little diatribe that once again foolishly assumes the modern audience needs shaking out of its complacency, and by doing so reveals itself to be more bourgeois in its inception than those it's trying to shock. Good writing would certainly come as a shock in this sort of thing, but sensationalism is just that much easier, isn't it.
