Brillant brillant story in Private Eye about Northern & Shell trying to launch a magazine called Spunk Loving Sluts and being crapped on by their distributors!

Nice touch about Vicki Holloway working there too as a sub editor. The eye point out that all the letterrs and articles she works on are over 25 years old and that she'll have to take out all the mentions of Thatcher and the Bay City Rollers!

Doesnt look good for Ric Porter though.

Considering Mr Porter appeared to be Peter Stringfellow's stunt double in the caricature they used of him in New Talent magazine, looking good has never been an issue. I'd have been more impressed by the Eye story if there wasn't the snide suggestion that a glamour model couldn't cut the mustard as a magazine chief-sub. As has been proved by many of the contributors to this forum, there are some intelligent and articulate models out there (Wendy, Chanta etc) and who's to say that the gorgeous Vicki couldn't do the job well.

Its worth remembering that Ian Hislop (editor of the Eye) is a public school snob. I applaud much of the Eyes stuff but I think Ians personal grudge against Richard Desmond is a bit tedious. Why do they never have a go at DS? He is worse than Desmond.

As someone who once wrote an unflattering profile of both Dirty Des and Dinky Dave for a magazine, I suppose Sullivan has never really tried desperately for respectability. Dirty Des is desperate for a knighthood. Hopefully, he will never get it.
