Sign O' The Times is a brilliant album, even the duet with Sheena Easton.
Purple Rain is sounding a bit dated 20 years on
1999 is still a great listen, as is Round The World in a Day.
Lovesexy is brilliant, as is Batman, but Graffiti Bridge is shite.......really shite.
Nice return to form with Diamonds and Pearls, but since he changed his name into a symbol, his output is iffy at best
I have a copy of the Black Album......now THAT is funk at its best, especially Cindy C and 2 Nigs United for West Compton

As a performer........................untouchable!! Saw him in 1988 on the LoveSexy tour at NEC, Birmingham

Yeah A, I bought Graffiti bridge/Purple rain on double feature VHS, what the fuck was that all abaht? Purple rain a totally fanastic soundtrack, shit film, heh I like the bit when he kisses Wendy or Lisa at the end when they are on stage, Purple rain never fails to move, I fucking love that song, i wud die 4 u, I have such great memories of this album, great to shag to (as is the fashionsistas soundtrack!) I remember buying the sign o the times video it was in 2 parts? and Sheena came on stage to duet with him, with U got the look, it was so long ago, I remeber lending it to the a woman who came in the video shop with her hubby, she loved it so much that when I came in the next day there was a 4 pack of tennents pilsner (the ones with the ladies on the side that my father (RIP Arnold Layne SNR) convinced me if you wet the bikini's they come off...I'm still rubbing now! lol) waiting for me, how lovely eh?

When I first started buying music(aged 17-late bloomer) I was never one to buy albums(being a cheap bastard) and just picked of the hits(big mistake)

I've got a couple of his earlier songs Controversy & Lets Go Crazy

Sounded great back then and still sound unique today IMHO

What with that helium like voice and the use of the organ/keyboards?

cheers

Oh Prince! If ever a musician deserved the title "Genius" it is this guy. He's a virtuoso on many an instrument, a God-like writer and live he is incendiary.

Favourites are many and varied; Little Red Corvette, the ENTIRE "Purple Rain" album (100% bona-fide CLASSIC album), Paisley Park, Condition Of The Heart, Pop Life, The Arms Of Orion, Sign O The Times, The Cross, I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man, Diamonds And Pearls, Alphabet Street, Dolphin, The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (A song about the Hungarian model Mia Stone! Or maybe Sandy), The Holy River....I LOVE this guy!!

He has literally hundreds of songs unreleased, a lot have surfaced on bootlegs and some of the stuff is fucking phenomenal, why he hasn't put it out is a mystery to me. Some of these great tracks include "Welcome To The Rat Race" and "Wonderful Ass" and a belter version of "We Can Funk."

Fuck it, I've remembered how much I love him so tomorrow I'm going to go out and but his latest album, "Musicology." I've heard it is pretty damn good.

Sheila E, Wendy and Lisa, Apollonia, Vanity, Cat...all those incredible women he had in his videos and stage shows..no wonder he blew my mind when I was thirteen! Hot women, blinding guitar, fancy moves, funky grooves...it doesn't get any better than that.

Yeah, I agree with Rude Boy too. But hey since Beautiful Girl In The World it's been pretty crap. Purple Rain ( I particularly like the 18 minute live version with 5 guitar solos) is actually my favourite song of all time and I got married to it. Cream, Beautiful Ones, Raspberry Beret and Kiss are all special.

O hell yes! Purple Rain live is nigh-on a religious experience, from those classic opening chords to the spine-tingling coda it is sensational and Prince always manages to weave some guitar magic into it. In fact I'd say he is one of the greatest guitar players on the scene but he is overlooked as he is such a great all-rounder.

I know what you mean about his later stuff going downhill, the triple album "Emancipation" has some great stuff on it though, a track called "The Holy River" is absolutely incredible.

Inspired by this thread I'm going to check out his new "Musicology" album, I've read good reviews and I heard a track, "Cinnamon Girl", which was great. I'll report back...
