Sir Edward Carson, later a prominent politician, represented Queensbury and destroyed Wilde in the witness box. A criminal trial followed and Wilde was sent to prison with hard labour for two years. He served his sentence at Readig gaol. Deano is correct Wilde's 'Ballad of Reading Gaol' is a masterpiece. I would highly recommend the 1960 film 'The Trials of Oscar Wilde'. Peter Finch played Wilde. James Mason played Carson and Lionel Jefferies gave a masterful portrayal of Queensbury.
