I discovered this forum in December 2000, and have been an enthusiastic viewer, and very occasional poster, since then. This is an attempt to get a serious discussion going on a subject that has intrigued me for quite a long time.
When you read most of the posts and responses to questions, you have to think that there are some really serious collectors of porn out there. Names like Woodgnome, alec, magoo, jj, et al seem to have the most enormous depth of knowledge about everything to do with porn. Joe King is the scariest of all - he can recognise a pimple on a bum from forty paces!!!
So the question is - what constitutes a collection of porn? Three videos/CDS/DVDs? Five? Ten? A thousand?!!! And when do you watch them? Do you watch the same videos/dvds/cds several times and then put them to one side (along the lines of discarding a lover!!) and look for the next one? Do you find that you keep going back to one particular performance to the exclusion of the others? It would seem that most of you have seriously catalogued your stuff to give quick and easy access to any subject/perversion/deviation.
When do you get time to sign on to the forum?
As I mentioned, I have been astounded by the depth of knowledge that you guys have, and taking into account the hairy hand syndrome, how can you possibly organise your days?
As you may have gathered, I am really an amateur at all this,
and have been fascinated by the responses and knowledge. And I'm worried about where I'm going - my collection of three Super8 loops is getting worn and really scratchy, and I find that I am now getting interested in watching penetration...............

Put simply experience is knowledge.

I'm not saying that the abovementioned names are ancient beings but they have extensive experience when it comes to watching vids.

Just as I had a collection of tapes/cd's/records bordering on 1000 not that long ago built up over 10/15 years so would they.

JJ would have the most I'm thinking except for the original Wifewatcher,almost akin to Ivan Lendl not winning Wimbledon if he doesn't find it.

You watch them when you feel the urge,no different to putting on a particular CD/record/tape.

interesting points mate, I think it differs from person to person. I personally don't own a single vid but if i was on master mind my chosen subject would be 'British Glamour Models 1988 - 2002'.

I suppose a collection could be three vids, a couple of mags, or 1000s of tapes: it all depends on your viewpoint.
Magoo and I have discussed recently the possibility that we (or at least I) spend more time collecting/researching the stuff than actually watching it, which rather defeats the object of the exercise. A lot of it gets very 'samey' after a while, as I suppose there is only a limited number of variations on the theme (unless you go the way of progressively weirder stuff).
The size of my 'collection' is now becoming a serious nuisance, and I am going to be significantly reducing it over the coming months. I know others have found themselves in a similar position.

Well having over 300 vids, some DVD's and a stack of mags I agree with JJ's "becoming a serious nuisance" as the space they take up is incredible. The size of the collection really gives you the great choice and is similar to a CD collection in some respects, for in the days when I had 10 tapes, watching the same tapes over and over again can become a bit boring.
A large collection also allows you the "I fancy watching that one which i aint seen for ages" a tape you may not have watched for 2 years. As for JJ's comment on "significantly reducing the collection" I think is easier said than done, for I have thought along similar lines myself but feel I cant part with any of them!
There is nothing like a brand new porn film that has just come out and I dont think it would be very easy to get a new catalogue through the door with the latest Ben Dover film in it which for instance Georgette Neale, Katie and Linsey Dawn Mckenzie in a 3 way lesbo sex session who are then fucked by 3 studs-the hope of reducing the collection goes up in smoke! Especially when the next catalogue you get then has Teresa May and Adele Stephens both starring in the brand new Big Willy episode!
My point is that once you have started collecting vids, actually giving this up is very difficult, getting rid of films you have already got in your collection is even more difficult!

I used to have around 500 or 600 vids, but have downscaled this to around 300.

JJ - you have my sympathy - I know the feeling of being taken over by VHS cassettes...the little buggers get everywhere.

Living with 4000 must be getting beyond a joke...

I reckon you should auction job lots off, or do what I did and take them in to a porn shop and swap say three or four of your tapes for one of their new ones. Worked well for me.
