There were a number of UK artists who didn't join the Springsteen-backed anti-Bush tour for those very reasons. Although Annie Lennox probably sympathised with the tour and its reasons, as a Brit she accepted it was none of her business interfering in US politics.
There is an argument the other way, though, considering the decisions made by America reverberate around the world.
Why is it that the British stock exchange falls as a result of Incorporated Hillbillies of Arkansas posting lower than expected profits? America sneezes, and the rest of the world catches cold.
