Probably more to the point is that anyone using the old program will be cut off from support come December 31 2004
Personally I think their all a much of a muchness be they free or pay programs
Curiously my pay Anti-Norton only covers some 68343 but anti vir which has been endorsed by the maker of spybot says it covers 80,000...a huge difference in anyones books
Makes you wonder

I had assumed that there would be automatic notification that the new version was available. I only found it because my previous version developed a fault and I went to the Grisoft site.

And full of bugs, because AVG Free is a beta version. AVG 6 no longer updates, AVG Free has a tendency to do all kinds of odd things, such as shut down on its own with no warning and block all emails. I had it and uninstalled it again within 24 hours.
I'm using Avast now and it seems to do the job ok

I've never had any probs. with it and I've never had an infection. The new free version isn't the beta afaik.

I got a virus last week that it didn't detect, even when I directly scanned the file with the trojan. If it hadn't been for Zone Alarm asking if I wanted to allow it access to the internet, I'd still have it and be none the wiser.
From checking up a few things, AVG Free doesn't like Win98se, which I still use on this PC. I thought it was running ok because the icon was in the taskbar, but it had shut itself down (avgcc not responding on a ctrl/alt/del)

Which probably makes this one the best bet
Given that its been designed for Windows 95/98/Me

I don't want to prolong this discussion. All I can say is that I'm still on 98SE and I've never had any probs with AVG. Norton was a pain in the arse, automatic updates were a joke, they never happened.
