Sorry Mods. Its probably not your fault but I'm having a lot of problems accessing this site . And when I get in I get misdirected. Posts take an age.

Maybe it's just me, but the internet really does seem slower these days. I've got DSL broadband on a laptop that's only six months old and some sites take forever and a day to fully load.

The amount of traffic causes the problems, although there may be only a few posters on bgafd, there will probably be loads of visitors, lurkers etc, and the servers are working overtime....

yes, we've been experiencing difficulties for a while now and have been trying to correct matters by recalibrating the mysql variables thingy in order to optimise the optimal number of queries (no, not alistair) - without much success, apparently... 
as caractacus notes, the stickiest period is between 10-11pm for some reason. it's not entirely predictable and most page 'hangs' tend to be only for a brief period but it can be extremely annoying if it causes you to lose the text of a message you're attempting to post. it's advisable to ctrl+a, ctrl+c before despatching to be on the safe side.
soz for the inconvenience but if it's any consolation, once the new software has bedded down access should be faster and more reliable than ever.

In the meantime, if you're not sure whether or not you've posted, it's best to copy your message and check, rather than see it posted three times.
