He made a film highlighting violence against Muslim women, and that doesn't exactly endear you to some folk. A citizen of Morrocan background has been arrested after a shoot-out.

He was a great-nephew of Vincent van Gogh and a prolific essayist, film and tv director. For the rest see Caractacus's post.

Again it is a very sad day in The Netherlands. A vibrant person, great film-maker, director, writer, columnist, "love or hate" national pain in the ass, rebel with a cause, who practised his freedom of speech to it's full extent, has been murdered.
It's the second time in Holland where a public person has been gunned down by a narrowminded lunatic.

you mean the Pierluigi Collina look-a-like who was assasinated a year or so ago?
Too right-wing for my taste, but he was a genius public speaker, and was very vocal against the rapid rise of immigrants that were poncing off the state, and we ALL would like to see the back of those freeloaders regardless of yer political stance!!
