He's not alone in becoming a statesman or national leader after beginning as a terrorist. Many of Israel's leaders began life carrying out terrorist attacks, including on British forces.

Because it has to deal with representatives of warring peoples. Do you think members of our government wanted to talk to Sinn Fein leaders? In many parts of the world, today's statesman was yesterday's revolutionary or terrorist.

As far as you and I are concerned, anyone who takes an innocent life, for whatever noble political reason, deserves to spend the rest of their natural in prison. Unfortunately, governments have to be more pragmatic.
