As soon as I had a CD player Vinyl became history but then I'm not an onsessive collector who has to have everything by anyone

Having to listen to all those filler songs before the good stuff was like watching porn on VHS except their was no fast forward button

I grew up with vinyl like you in the 70's ( ahhh....the seventies...) and when CDs came out I thought that vinyl was suddenly obsolete. However, the CDs I brought of the vinyl versions I already had never seemed to get me going the same way.

Its not just me getting old, no, there is an explanation for why CDs dont sound as good. After wading through gallons of HiFi bullshit it seems the standard 16 bit/44.1 KHz audio CD cuts a lot of subtle stuff that you get on a decent vinyl cutting. Its not supposed to make a difference but it does.

I used to think people who claimed CDs weren't as good were just those claret sipping, leather elbow patched, vintage MG car driving HiFi farts who were trying to impress by never being satisfied with anything. As much as I hate to admit it, they're right about CDs.

There is such a thing as a laser vinyl player which plays good old records by reflecting a laser off the groove thus never wearing out your records. They cost about $US 20,000 and are made to order !

So you mean to say rather than swapping to CDs for the better sound on our very average set-ups we should have just upgraded using mum & dads credit card?

Even if you believe that the one undeniable difference and the CDs main selling point IMHO is its flexibility & portability

The fact that you can take your CDs with you anywhere anytime and skip over the tracks that suck was the nail in the coffin for vinyl

Like it or not but the concept of Albums has been well and truly superseded by the Single IMHO

I, myself, personally, well I dont even own a turn table and the last vinyl record I brought was in about 1986. Yes CDs are heaps more conveinient and are still fun to listen to and you just get used to a lot of it. I am living proof that one can still have fun by getting 'Jeeves' to pop my favourite Kylie CD into the microwave, I mean CD player, as one does.

But, when you hear for instance, 'Something' from 'Let it Be' on a good vinyl system ( owned by someone else in my case ) it just sounds fuller, richer and more groovy baby.

As for Christina Ag - well - I generally listen to her videos with the sound muted and my pants around my ankles.
