Minutes silence!

I watched the Newcastle and Arsenal game in a pub in the centre of Exeter on Wednesday evening and when the minute silence came about(for the tidal wave), the whole pub went quiet.

I have never known a packed pub to go quiet before for anything let alone a minutes silence.

It sort of renewed my faith in human nature.

The amount of money raised by the great British public in such a short time has been amazing. Thirty years ago, it would have barely been acknowledged, but the communications technology is such---and the travel experience of many folk is such---that it seems to be on the doorstep. Harrowing pics of people fighting the elements in a bid to survive, or of bodies in the aftermath . . . .

Dwight Yorke calling on Premiership footballers to donate a week's wages for the relief effort; hard-nosed business men and women urging their colleagues to do what they can . . .

There's a sense that it happened there, yes, but it could have been anywhere, and any of us caught up in it.

My faith in human nature hasn't been totally restored, but it's no longer as close to extinction.

Shared grief always brings everything into reality

Its been a wake-up call IMHO

Seeing Starving Children in a TV advert just doesn't get the same reaction
because its not your own

Lets just jope those against the early warning system in the indian ocean now come to their senses and stop opposing it

cheers

I was at Anfield 2 c Liverpool struggle 2 a 1-0 victory over Southampton on Tuesday, and the minutes slience was impeccably observed.

How many people will observe the 3 minutes silence on Wednesday ?
