So, presumably the government are going to give the people of Carlisle a blank cheque to help them recover from the flooding damage done today?

that's what insurance is for, I hope this isn't a sly dig at monies given to the tsunami disaster

I think that's exactly what was intended.
Time for someone to look up the word "perspective" in the dictionary.

A dig at a government who will use every trick in the book to avoid helping its own people in their time of need.
Thats not to say I object to much of the other work currently going on.

time of need? some of their stuff got wet, hardly a time of need. It'll give them an excuse to make a few false claims and ultimately end up better off

Yes Caractacus, this puts it in perspective......"At least 1,700 passengers died when a train travelling between the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo and the southern city of Galle, was swept from its rails by the tsunami".

Chill out gentlemen. I am a citizen of Carlisle. The damage is horrific. My area and the town centre have electric, nobody else does. Many of my friends and colleagues houses have been ruined. I know at least 20 families in the affected areas. The phones are still down in most of the city, cash machines off line and very few petrol stations open.
I was bloody lucky, I live 2 floors up. My neighbours 50 yards away were 2 foot deep in shit brown water.
I am going into work asap. I work for the local housing assoc so no doubt will be a hectic day.
The only good thing this weekend was Man U drawing with mighty Exeter!

Hi Heathray,
As a fellow Cumbrian (Maryport) I really feel for the people of Carlisle, the West coast was fairly lucky, a few trees down, slates off roofs etc, but we avoided the floods thank God.
My best wishes for a speedy end to your misery.
Geoff

I wonder if the government and insurance companies will act with more integrity and honesty with regards to financial help than they allegedly have towards the people of Boscastle. A good source tells me residents and businesses have been let down very badly by both though not by the public!.
