Anyone relying solely on the free programs such as Adaware,Spybot & CW Shredder, spyblaster & spyguard should consider running SpySweeper even if only for the 30 day trial

I thought my system was clean but I was wrong,BIG TIME....8 unwanteds

I might be wrong but check the SpyBot site b4 downloading any other SpyWare product - many of them are simply clones and their "free checker" just claims to have found stuff that wasn't really there to get your hard earned dollar! I've relyed on SpyBot for ages and it's perfectly adequate.

Perhaps I'm paranoid or just over cautious. I've got SpywareBlaster, SpysubtractBasic, SpybotS&D, Spysweeper and AdAware.
I just ran them in that order and Spysubtract found 2 cookies, Spybot nothing, Spysweeper 4 cookies and AdAware nothing new.

Btw Deuce, I tried to email you a link to an interesting Aussie site but it came back from the mailserver with this message
"This message has been rejected because it has
a potentially executable attachment "News, military wannabes.url"
This form of attachment has been used by
recent viruses or other malware.
If you meant to send this file then please
package it up as a zip file and resend it."
I don't know why sending it as a zip would make it any safer.

Your not paranoid Mart,just sensible

If you read reviews of all the latest software you can only come to one conclusion. There isn't 1 Program that can defend and remove all threats

Perfect example was the much heralded SpySweeper 3.0

It had a real problem removing CooL Web Search- the worst spyware to date

PS I'll email you on the other item

The product I had in mind, that was essentially a clone of SpyBot, was Spyware Doctor, and was the subject of some very dodgy marketing ( check the SpyBot site for details )

It is the case though that some paid for products install spyware as they install their "Free Spyware Check" - purely to generate business as they "detect" something their competitors couldn't detect!

The guy who wrote / runs SpyBot sems like a genuine enough bloke. I'm quite happy using his stuff along side AdAwareSE and Avast Antivirus - all freeware, all effective.

The Spybot List is just the tip of the Iceberg

Its article section is second to none

The use of false positives has long been used to make Computer Users think their current set-up is inadequate

This list is probably the most complete going around
