With a population of just over 5 times that of the UK (and consuming and excreting a mere 25% of the World's resources and polutants) spread over a vast continent and beleiving in true 'Ameriacn values' (as though that means something) with your head up your ass (arse).. it's easy to think that the world is flat, or just stops in California, or just over them hills....

Just had to get that off me chest.

You are so right. And I live in the US.

Nah - Geography isn't taught - if you're in America, who cares about the rest of the world? Your own country is big enough to keep you exploring for the rest of your life and there is such diversity there that visiting the grumbly whining Brits is the last thing on your priority list!

The reason American people are the way they are is because all the people from the UK with anything about them - the courage, the vision and the adventurous spirit, are the ones that travelled over to the states back in the days it was starting up. The people that were left here were the gutless worriers ("well, if it works out we might think about it in 20 years") whinging types.

That's why we hide our jealousy and desire to have more of the care free, happy go lucky spirit of the US by picking fault with every insignificant little thing like how they look or little things they say. I'm talking about the characteristics of the people here, rather then politics and stuff.

OK, Matt. I agree with your first two paragraphs, but I cannot agree with your opinion that we are all jealous of the Yanks. I think you'll find this is just not true. I find it impossible to be jealous of a race who have a more rancid Island Mentality Mindset than a lot of people here. I find it impossiible be jealous of a race who insist on thrusting their processed and mechanically recovered culture on the rest of the world, especially the developing world, with the statement to the effect that they/we should all be fucking grateful for it! I find it impossible to be jealous of a country which whines when terrorised for the first time, after spending decades winding up big time many other lesser countries - and then expects all of us to feel sorry for it.
One heres the phrase 'the westernisation of the former eastern bloc', when in reality it's the Americanisation of the former eastern bloc.I know, I was in Poland shortly after they joined the EU, and first in were:
1. McDonalds
2. Hilton Hotels
3. Pizza Hut - really! Menus in Polish, too!
.........and probably many other 'high street' names.
I'll say no more, but you get my drift.
