Just recently come back from a trip on modelling from spain.
Anybody going to spain and thinking about hiring a car (Advice:Take your time driving on there roads,I have moaned sometimes about the state of bad drivers in the UK,Boy you lot haven't seen how the spanish drive yet(i never moan about Uk driving again),I have travelled quite a bit over the world(USA,dubai, south africa, canada and parts of Europe (and Spain got to be one of the worst country i seen in driving,There all bloody kamikaze,)
Trust me it is frightning when you how stupid there are at taking risks on the road(actually you need to go over there to see it yourselfs).
Two words i have for Spanish drivers:
organ donors (I think enough said)

I passed 3 serious looking accidents in about an hour on the coast road going south from Barcelona. The driving is a bit erratic, but I prefer driving there to over here ... it adds a bit excitement. Driving here is just dull dull dull ... too many rules, speed cameras and people who want to toddle around like wimps. Nobody wants to be the one in the accident, but I like the Spanish attitude to srive how you like and park the car anywhere it stops.

Try the Arab Gulf...they really do get their licences from kelloggs and have no idea of road rules
One accident resulted in an all in armed battle in a hospital where 2 tribes fought each other and the medical team had to let the critically injured driver die for fear of their own lives...crazy but true..life under allah isn't so serene after all IMHO
cheers

I don't know what part of Spain you were in Carl but the old N-340 that ran from Malaga to Algerciras was named the road to death because it had more fatal crashes on it than any other road in Europe.
The Spanish are dodgy drivers but in my opinion the Italians are still by far the worse that I have come accross.

Turks and Greeks are the worse.........how many coach crashes with tourists get reported every year from Turkey and Greece?
Best way to find out is the huge hike in medical insurance visiting these 2 countries.
Mind you, our lorry drivers are a law unto themselves, so Bronze medal to Team GB

Yes i seen a few parking cars on crossings or just carry on driving on a crossing while people were crossing,(also it cant be law in Spain to NOT to wear a helmet while riding a motorbike).
But yes there dont have speed cameras and speed bumps like we do.(i suppose the spanish are laid back bunch).
Eduardo:
I went to alicante to pick car up and travelled on N-332 (i was staying just outside La Mata).I find there motorways a bit wierd as well,(there dont give you much run off when coming on or off on there slip roads, not like Uk or Usa roads where you got a good run off area to filter in traffic, but saying that it is very quiet there motorways(ap as there known) only 2 lanes.
You right Ace i forgot about the turkish and greeks, a lot of accidents there always seems to happen on a steep hillside/mountain roads.(i wouldn't trust a turk or greek coach firm anyway there never have a good safety record)

It is the law to wear crash hats on motorbikes but when I lived there (over 18 months ago now) if the spanish old bill caught you then you had 7 days to produce the bash hat and take it to the local police station.
So basically you had to own one but they weren't that fussed about making you wear it.
