Always been a big fan of Pink Floyd, and have most of their albums, probably favourite being The Wall, Dark Side of the Moon and The Final Cut, and was given The Wall on DVD for Christmas just never got around to watching it till tonight.
And was absolutely blown away, it must be one of the best films ever made.
It is thought provoking, disturbing, moving and clever all in one, and obviously with the best soundtrack ever produced! The graphics from Gerald Scarfe are also awesome.
If you like their music you must see the film, and even if you are not a keen fan, the film will make you think about many different things, especially war in ways you never thought of (and this is coming from an ex-army man).
Quick couple fo quesitons to those with the Floyd knowledge.
Was the film and the album conceived together, or if not which came first, the movie with the album as the soundtrack, or the album first and movie written to compliment the music.
And am I right in saying Bob Geldof provided vocals for some of the songs?
Cheers
Paul

Glad to be of service. The album came first although Roger Waters always envisaged the project encompassing an album, a stage show and a feature film. The music was re-jigged considerably for the film although no official soundtrack ever saw the light of day. The stunning "When The Tigers Broke Free" was released as a single though. Roger's last album with Pink Floyd, "The Final Cut", started life as leftovers from The Wall project and songs from the film soundtrack (It would have been called "Spare Bricks") but grew into something altogether different although I imagine the anti-war theme was born out of The Wall as it was an underlying theme of the project.
Bob Geldof did indeed record his own vocals for the soundtrack.
Right, I'll get me anorak.

What Rude boy missed was that the Earls court live show of 9/8/80 was professionally filmed with over half a dozen camera's for intended inclusion in "The Wall" film, as wall the Nassau coliseum show in New york in 1980 (copies of this exsist but aint too clever) it was originally going to be a mixture of live footage and animation, "Hey you" was never in the original film of the Wall, but can be found on the extra's on the dvd. A complete live audio recording of these fantastic shows can be found on "Is there anybody out there?" the wall live 1980/81, mail me directly Paul, and I'll send you one and save you some money
Roger Waters has always said he may release the live footage one day, as the band were unhappy with it at the time, but it's doubtful, but thanks to a fantastic bloke from this very forum, I own a 2 dvd set of the earls court wall footage, and also "The wall demos" which differ considerably from the album, and its fucking amazing!
Now I'm wearing 2 anorak's and sweating!
