Hi,

I'm looking at buying some stuff from a company in France and was wondering if there is any customs charges for it. The selling company tell me that as the vat is being paid in France by themselves then I won't get a customs charge in the UK.

It's not available in the UK so I can only get it from France or the US. The US I know does have a customs charge for items over ?20 (I think).

Does anybody know if the French company is telling me the truth or not? I thought it best to check it out first.

The product that I am buying costs ?180. It's not porn related by the way. It's some software.

They are telling you the truth.

If you can find a reliable supplier it's worth sourcing goods from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland or the Baltic States as their prices are way below France and they're in the EU, so you only pay vat at local rate.

Thanks for the tip Nachovx but unfortunately this stuff is only available from the company direct and they only have offices in France and the US.

I will remember that for the future though so thanks again.
