Faulty DVDs.

I'm not having a go at anybody but have a real puzzler.
3 DVDs I bought from a UK source have all stopped "working". Initially they were OK on my laptop and my standalone DVD player. Then they stopped playing on my laptop and actually caused it to hang. But they were OK on my standalone player. Now they won't even play on that. They look to be in perfect condition, clean, no scratches.
Anyone got any ideas re diagnosis of faults ?
And its not my players, I've checked using other DVDs.

I diidn't mean that

How do you know what quality DVDs any retailer uses?

Paying a decent price for a film even if from a reputable dealer doesn't guarantee lasting quality sadly

Then again maybe your 2 DVD players damaged the discs

Either scenario is possible

Your laptop has given you 3 plays of a region that is different to the region your laptop is set for. Try some software called Dvd Region Killer to over ride this problem.

They are Region 0 and my standalone player is multi-region, so thats not the cause.
Thanks for the link, I'll download that anyway for future use on my laptop and my DVD burner/drive.

Are these genuine retail discs or pirated stuff?

If they're copied discs it could be dye failure. CDR and DVDR do lose data over time, particularly if the disc used is shitty quality.

Although having said that, I've had retail discs go cunty on me before too.
