I am a rock fan but the guitar solo on Goodbye to Love is awesome. A bit like Abba their production, arranging etc were superb.

Another one of those artists that I wouldn't have ever thought I could enjoy - untill I swallowed my pride, brought one of their CDs and listened. They wrote some bloody good tunes eh ? And Karens' voice was a clear as a bell.

I've never bought anything from them ... but I like her voice. Just a pity she died so young

Great quote I heard:

If only Karen Carpenter and Mama Cass had shared that sandwich
they might both be here today.

If I was tired, I certainly WOULD NOT have The Carpenters round. All that hammering and sawing away wouldn't help ME relax!!

Seriously though, EXCELLENT duo and she couldn't half play the drums. Its a pity they were schmaltzy-too-sweet for American audiences, its a bit of an Albatross round their neck in later life. Richard Carpenter was an excellent arranger. Overall, 8/10 from me, and a thought I MAY buy a compilation CD just to remember her haunting voice and the quality of some of their songs

Her voice managed to soar above their schmaltzy image. I did buy a compilation album some years back and was pleasantly surprised by how much of it I enjoyed. She had a voice that could raise the hairs on the back of your neck. Shame that her mental problems (anorexia and other eating disorders are that; it doesn't matter what other people, or even the bathroom scales, say, you are convinced you have a weight problem) robbed us of her talent. When you think of all those up their own arse divas that think they are the bees knees, the world could do with a down to earth Karen showing them how it should be done.
