Always worth having just incase other freebies like adaware & spybot don't clean all the cool web search traces from your computer

One of those excellent programs that no ones seem to talk about
unlike his other creation Hijack This
Wether its developement under Intermute is a good thing I must admit I have my doubts given their using it in their spysubtract software(trialware)
cheers

Well it's saved my arse on many a hijack.
I still have the previous builds along with Hijack This.
Good stuff indeed.
Thank god I never had any diallers when I used to be on dial up.
BB all the way.

The creator Merijn said it was going to be dis-continued before Intermute(Makers of Spysubtract) bought version 1.59 from him in October 2004?
Since then the freeware program has been update 3/4 times if memory serves me correctly but this seems very sparing IMHO given the nature of the Cool Web Search variable trojans
Maybe the likes of Spyblaster are making it obsolete
cheers

I'm getting really confused by all the security packages. I just ran Housecall from Trendmicro. Umpteen items of Spyware found....but they were all Cookies. What's the difference, if any?
Yesterday I ran a new free scan from Pandaware, claimed to find 5 viruses, but AVG and Avasti! found none.
BTW the freebie Avasti! is a bit of a bugger for installing itself on Startup and using a lot of memory.

Whats to be confused about?
You run 1 firewall,1 anti-virus and as many spyware blocking, removal, scanning programs as you like
The best judge of wether that package is working is the speed of your surfing, your computer and the amount of spam in your email
Even after all that your still not guaranteed of having a secure system because the bad guys are always one step ahead of the good guys
All software uses a different database by enlarge so logic says it will turn up different results.Determining wether their false positives or real threats is the tricky part but I say if your computer is running smoothly ignore it

PS No idea what the difference between a cookie & adware/spyware/malware is
I just go by the rating warning and almost on all occasions its a next to non-existant 3 or below.

Before you run Housecall,Ad-Aware or Spybot, you're best to empty your Temporary Internet Files ... because they regard cookies as spyware/adware and report on them. Trouble is it's not possible to surf lots of sites without them.
