Just found out today why we no longer have our village Bobby.
Despite paying a huge wedge of council tax to the Local Police Authority, the village Bobby has to be funded from the Parish council's minute share of the council tax budget. The total sum of which wouldn't pay a Malaysian sweat shop worker for a year!
So I find myself asking, why am I paying council tax for a service I'm not receiving? or worse still not entitled to? Maybe I'll try for a rebate.
What's next? Dial 999 & pay by credit card before they'll respond?

Your council tax is divided into sectors of which the Police are one. Each council sets a budget and your local police force will have to adhere to that budget which unfortunately means your local bobby being used in a more resourceful department in the Police rather than cycling around his beat.
It stinks, it really does, but feel for the firemen and ambulance services that are bugeted far less than the Police, and STILL provide a service that pisses on the Police

LOL, Ace, I like the idea of making a bobby ride a bike............actually saw one in the village on Tuesday........well, doing about 65 in his nice new volvo pursuit ship, on his way up a one way road, the wrong way!
Ah well! at least he's justified his job by carrying out his bi annual patrol! Keeps the village toe rags quaking in their boots eh! Knowing that Mr Plod is only an hour away.
