Why would they need mags? They're either having the best bum-fun ever, boffed off their heads on the best drugs ever, or savouring the chance to inflict a nice bit of violence on their fellow inmates. Any new forms of diversion would just be a distraction.

What Can I Take In?

What visitors can bring prisoners

For security reasons and for the safety of prisoners, there is very little that is allowed to be given to a prisoner by a visitor. This includes food and drink. The Prison Service takes this very seriously and searches are carried out to make sure these rules are followed.

Procedures vary from prison to prison, so as a general rule it is best if the visitor calls the individual prison to find out what is and is not permitted before they spend any money.

That's for visitors but I think the same could be advised concerning item sent to prisoners. Phone the prison and ask.

Cheers.

The fourth annual Prison Officer of the Year award has been won by Terry Blane from HMP Exeter.

So his bribe minimum would have been doubled at least, don't ya think?

Thank-you.

I should think it depends on what they're in for.

If the mags are any good they'll just be confiscated by the screws.

Arnie I can give you some proper advice mate as unfortunately I spent 3 months in Exeter clink a couple of years back.

If the guy is on remand i.e. not sentenced then you can take some clothes in for them. If he (or she) has been sentenced then you can't.

As for mags etc then they definitely can't have anything pornographic even things like Mayfair are a no no. The male screws couldn't give a toss but the female screws go after it big time. Probably for themselves hey.

That said I still don't think that you can take them in for them. I think that mags etc have to be ordered through the prison library and then get delivered to the cell.

To be honest I don't really think that you can take much in. In HMP Exeter you can't even take crisps etc from the visiting lounge back into the main prison. They got taken off us and we got a warning for it.

The best thing to do is pay some money into your mates "canteen" and they can then buy stuff for themselves. It stops all the hassle.

When you do go to visit be prepared to be searched. You will also have to leave your mobile, watch etc in a locker. They will let you take in some change for refreshments etc.

I can't think of much else. If you have any other questions then please ask.
