English Premier League

Having just read this this little dummy spit about how the EPL is nothing more than a league for:
It is a big city, big population, big finance division now. And nobody would be surprised to see West Ham, smaller always than the London might of Arsenal and Chelsea, fighting for their lives come next spring.
Maybe its time the league was restructured(like american sports perhaps with regional dvisions leading up to playoffs) so all the country can be exposed to topflight football not just the larger population centres with bucket loads of money
cheers

All but one not doing much , regional divisions still exist in one cup , but you summed it up with your last word "money" that's what they're all in it for , as much as they can get . i'm suprised he can remeber them leaving , he'd be at reading atthe time . JJ . Loyalty , another word that's no belonging in footy .

True which is why its the same 2/3 boring as batshit horse race every year
Imagine the EPL without the TV Money
Might be as unpredictable as the Championship, god forbid
An EPL Club Marketing Managers nightmare

The reason why the Premier League was created was to take the revenue that was being shared around all 92 football league clubs and redistribute it to only the clubs in the top flight.
The Premier Lge has gone money mad some would say to the detriment and soul of the game. Others say it has improved it as alot of the worlds foreign super stars play here now improving both the quality, standard and profile of the game here in blighty.
I would say that somewhere between the two would be about right and although I might get splinters in my backside for sitting on the fence I do believe that there's pluses and minuses to both.
I personally think the sport has lost it's soul, some tradition and the Champions League is partly to blame for that as well.

I agree, it has lost its soul and i think its gonna get worse before it gets better but then again how long is it gonna be before the European Super League rears its head again, i think thats what might happen in the end coz as said already its all about the money and a European Super League's gonna make a fortune! Plus if you look in other country's top league's its the same 2/3 teams winning every year also!

It's worse in Italy where the clubs negotiate their own individual TV contracts. Some (the smaller) clubs don't even have a TV deal and some of the ones that do then it's not much.
Then look at Juventus with a 50m a year deal (not usre if that's the equivilant in euros or sterling) and you can see a major disparity.
The European Super League may rear it's head again if Platini wins the vote to be the next president of Uefa in succession to Johansson. He wants an end to big business and wants the Champs Lge abolished to a straight knock out. However he must remember that the European Cup in it's present format was contrived by Uefa to prevent a breakaway of the big clubs who were none too happy with Uefa.
Expect the breakaway to be mentioned again if Platini gets in.
